Rick is responsible for leading Optimity Advisors. He comes with more than 30 years of expertise in financial, accounting and information technology, as well as re-engineering and strategic services for healthcare, insurance and financial services industries. Rick's extensive advisory experience has him focused on leading and delivering large, high-risk strategic projects.

Experience

 

Rebuilt the Federal Employees Program Healthcare Operations for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association

The project delivered operational and technical benefits to enable the program to continue to be service and cost competitive for many years. The project was delivered on time and on budget, accounting for 450,000 hours of effort over five years.

Developed a Capital Management Strategy and Associated Management Processes to Improve Overall Return-on-Equity

The estimated benefit of the project was a 3% increase in ROE, yielding a bottom-line benefit of $210 million. Included in the project was a better decision-making process for ROE improvement (e.g., capital redeployment, asset/liability parameters, investment return, and product design).

Designed and Built International Reinsurance System

Led effort to design and build an international reinsurance system to bring to market and manage niche products in multiple European, South American, and Asian markets. This system allowed the company to gain international market share and manage risk profitably.

Led Analysis of Multiple Managed Care Systems

Performed requirements definition, package evaluations, selection, and implementation of several integrated managed care systems. Functions included medical management, claims/encounters, membership, and financial reporting. The projects used a packaged-enabled re-engineering approach to assure cost-effective, high-value operational impact.

Merger and Acquisition Lead

Assisted several companies with merger and acquisition activities, including design of the operating model and integration road maps. Activities included operating carve out strategies, system selections and consolidations, process improvements, and organizational design activities.

Operational Transformation for Large Commercial Payer

Developed operational transformation strategy and plan for large commercial payer. Plan led to the complete and successful reconstruction of the healthcare company.
