By John Horodyski and Mindy Carner
We’ll be talking metadata, design thinking and, of course, DAM!
Celebrating nine years as a Henry Stewart presenter, John Horodyski, Partner at Optimity Advisors, will be there again this year, talking all the good DAM things, like metadata, taxonomy and governance. But this year, we’re excited to take a new angle in the approach to DAM — a creative, human-centered, design-thinking approach. Below, you’ll find the sessions we’ll be leading and what you’ll learn when you attend.
Fundamentals of Metadata for DAM Professionals Tutorial | Wednesday, May 2, 9:30 a.m.
This tutorial teaches the fundamentals of metadata, including metadata standards, best practices, asset evaluation, controlled vocabularies, interoperability and the design of a metadata model/schema. The content is tailored particularly for users and administrators who want to understand how metadata can be the "lifeblood" of DAM, and how it facilitates digital asset discovery, use and reuse. Whether you already have a DAM system or are looking to select one, this tutorial will help you better communicate your requirements and needs. If you’re a manager of a DAM system, consider this tutorial essential.
Led by John Horodyski
Taxonomy and Advanced Metadata for DAM Tutorial | Wednesday, May 2, 2:00 p.m.
This tutorial covers the fundamentals, strategies, standards, design methodology and best practices of developing taxonomies for your DAM and organization. It is based on best practices for establishing information structure and managing and governing your digital assets. Led by a master practitioner, the session will address how to manage and improve metadata schemas, establish content policies and digital asset governance using taxonomies and metadata, and calculate a return on investment (ROI) for particular classes of users, digital assets, and media channels. All managers of DAM systems should consider this session essential to a career in DAM.
Led by John Horodyski
Metadata Matters Panel | Thursday, May 3, 11:20 a.m.
Topics will include:
- Metadata model — does size matter?
- Metadata maturity in the DAM
- Governance? Yes, no, or…
- Is there a number of metadata fields we can realistically ask people to enter manually?
- Metadata, DAM and artificial intelligence (AI)
- Metadata and synonym control with technology — tips and best practices
- Metadata and migration examples and advice
Moderated by John Horodyski. Panelists include:
Monica Fulvio, Director of Taxonomy and Metadata at National Geographic
Molly Madson, Marketing Manager in Creative Services Operations at Best Buy
Jennifer Terbosic, Media Asset Manager for the Philadelphia Eagles
Metadata Matters Interactive | Wednesday, May 2, 4:20 p.m.
This interactive session covers the fundamentals of metadata and taxonomy in a fun, interactive learning environment.
The content will empower anyone working in DAM to use metadata and taxonomy as the "lifeblood" of DAM, facilitating digital asset discovery, use and reuse. It will enable you to better communicate your requirements and needs, whether you already have a DAM system or are looking to select one.
Design DAM JAM! | Thursday, May 3, 4:20 p.m.
Spending an hour with us at Henry Stewart will change the way you approach digital asset management.
A Design DAM JAM is an idea factory. It’s a fun, fast, creative brainstorming session intended to create a range of ideas and potential solutions to solve a specific challenge — in this instance, the UX (user experience) and UI (user interface) of a DAM. It’s about collaboration, experimentation, and innovation! It's also about putting the customer/user front and center by starting with an understanding of their needs and desires.
